Yo soy la puerta; si alguien entra por mí, será salvo, y entrará y saldrá, y encontrará pastos. San Juan 10,9

Pensamiento, comentario, reflexión: yo soy la puerta: para mí, si alguien entra, etc. - Los que vengan a la salvación de Dios, a través de Cristo, la obtendrán: él será salvo, sus pecados serán borrados, su alma purificada y él mismo preservado para la vida eterna. Esto los escribas y fariseos no podían prometer ni transmitir.

Entra y sale, esta frase, al estilo de los hebreos, muestra todas las acciones de la vida de un hombre y la libertad que tiene para actuar o no. Un buen pastor lleva a su rebaño a los campos donde se encuentran buenos pastos; obsérvelos mientras están allí, tráigalos de vuelta y fíjelos en el pliegue. Así, el que es enseñado y llamado por Dios alimenta al rebaño de Cristo con las verdades de su palabra de gracia que los nutre para la vida eterna; y Dios bendice al pastor y las ovejas juntos, de modo que, yendo y viniendo, encuentren pasto: cada evento les es útil; y todas las cosas funcionan juntas por su bien.

Thought, comment, reflection: I am the door: for me, if someone enters, etc. - Those who come to the salvation of God, through Christ, will obtain it: he will be saved, his sins will be erased, his soul purified and he himself preserved for eternal life. This the scribes and Pharisees could neither promise nor transmit.

In and out, this phrase, in the style of the Hebrews, shows all the actions of a man's life and the freedom he has to act or not. A good shepherd leads his flock to the fields where good pastures are found; watch them while they are there, bring them back and pin them to the fold. Thus, he who is taught and called by God feeds the flock of Christ with the truths of his word of grace that nourishes them for eternal life; and God blesses the shepherd and the sheep together, so that, coming and going, they find pasture: each event is useful to them; and all things work together for their good.

I am the door, it has a different meaning here. In John 10: 8, he was referring to the Lord's access to his flock; here it refers to men's access to salvation or, in terms of metaphor, to access to the fold. Here is the mix of metaphor and reality for which you are in the same sentence. The sheep cannot find salvation, and the Christians cannot find pasture; but both concepts are in this verse. Surprisingly, the same mixed metaphor is found in the Old Testament: "Therefore we, the people and the sheep of your pasture, will give you thanks forever" (Psalm 79:13). Obviously, the sheep do not give thanks; but it was part of the genius of inspiration that the metaphors were mixed in the two wills. Attention to detail like this is a prerequisite to understanding this remarkable passage.
