Más bien, santifica a Cristo, como Señor, en tu corazón; y siempre prepárate para responder con mansedumbre y miedo a cualquiera que te pregunte la razón de la esperanza que hay en ti. 1 Pedro 3,15

Pensamiento, Comentario, Reflexión: Cuando separamos a Cristo como Señor, nos cambiará. Peter dice que aquellos que nos miran notarán la diferencia. Esa diferencia es la esperanza. Incluso en medio de nuestro sufrimiento, nuestra esperanza debe ser evidente. Entonces, Peter nos indica que estemos listos para responder la pregunta que nuestra vida debería inspirar: "¿Cómo puedes tener tanta esperanza en circunstancias tan difíciles?"

Peter predice que las personas serán curiosas. La esperanza y la alegría son completamente diferentes de la respuesta humana normal al sufrimiento. Tanto es así que la gente estará ansiosa por entenderlo. ¿Qué diremos cuando pregunten? Debemos estar preparados para defendernos, para defender la fe en Cristo. Necesitamos rechazar la presión cultural para mantener nuestras creencias por nosotros mismos. En cambio, los creyentes deben compartir abiertamente las buenas nuevas de la redención a través de la fe en Cristo.

La palabra griega traducida "para defender" o "para dar una respuesta" es apologista, desde la raíz de la palabra disculpa. Esto no está relacionado con la palabra inglesa "excusas", en la cual se expresa arrepentimiento o remordimiento. Por el contrario, el término significa una justificación, o una "respuesta", o una razón. Esta es la fuente de los términos "apologética" y "apologista", que se refieren a una defensa racional de la fe cristiana.

Finalmente, importa cómo defendemos a Cristo. Debemos presentarlo con amabilidad y respeto. Los cristianos no están llamados a condenar a quienes sienten curiosidad por nuestra esperanza. Tampoco debemos ser vengativos, vengativos o insultantes con aquellos que no están de acuerdo. Más bien, debemos explicar nuestra fe sin dureza ni desdén.

Thought, Commentary, Reflection: When we separate Christ as Lord, it will change us. Peter says those who look at us will notice the difference. That difference is hope. Even in the midst of our suffering, our hope must be evident. So Peter tells us to be ready to answer the question that our life should inspire: "How can you have so much hope in such difficult circumstances?"

Peter predicts that people will be curious. Hope and joy are completely different from the normal human response to suffering. So much so that people will be eager to understand it. What will we say when they ask? We must be prepared to defend ourselves, to defend faith in Christ. We need to reject cultural pressure to maintain our beliefs for ourselves. Instead, believers should openly share the good news of redemption through faith in Christ.

The Greek word translated "to defend" or "to give an answer" is apologist, from the root of the word apology. This is not related to the English word "excuses", in which regret or remorse is expressed. Rather, the term means a justification, or an "answer," or a reason. This is the source of the terms "apologetics" and "apologist", which refer to a rational defense of the Christian faith.

Finally, it matters how we defend Christ. We must present it with kindness and respect. Christians are not called to condemn those who are curious about our hope. Nor should we be vengeful, vindictive, or insulting those who disagree. Rather, we must explain our faith without harshness or contempt.
