He aquí, vamos a Jerusalén, y el Hijo del Hombre será entregado a los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y lo matarán. Y lo entregarán a los gentiles para burlarse, azotar y crucificar, y al tercer día resucitará. San Mateo 20,18,19

Pensamiento, comentario, reflexión: Mateo 20:18. Vamos a Jerusalén En el viaje a la muerte que había predicho previamente (Mateo 16:21).

Entregado a los principales sacerdotes. Más detallado que el cap. Mateo 17,22: 'en manos de los hombres'. Se implica una doble traición: primero por sus profesos amigos a sus enemigos declarados; luego por su propio pueblo a los gentiles.

Te condenarán a muerte. Una referencia a la condena judicial del Sanedrín (Mateo 27: 1).

Mateo 20:19. Y lo entregará a los gentiles. Comp. individual. Mateo 27.2 y siguientes.

Burlarse, azotar y crucificar. Marcos y Lucas agregan: 'escupir'. Cumplido en cada detalle.

Y al tercer día resucitará. Esto fue agregado como antes. La solicitud de Salomé indica que los discípulos no entendieron la predicción en su conjunto (Lucas 18.34), por muy claro que sea para nosotros.

Entrégalo a los gentiles para que se burlen: esto fue hecho por Herodes y sus soldados romanos. Ver Lucas 23.11.

Azote y crucifique. Esto fue hecho por Pilato, el gobernador romano. El castigo de la cruz era romano, no judío; pero los principales sacerdotes

condenado, y los romanos llevaron a cabo la sentencia. ¡Cuán poco sabían que, mediante este proceso, ofrecían conjuntamente ese sacrificio para expiar a los gentiles y a los judíos! ¿Una expiación por los pecados del mundo entero? ¿Cuántas veces puedes decir literalmente: La ira del hombre te alabará!

Confesión de fe

Confieso mi pecado y le pido perdón, y libérame de toda condenación. Reconozco a Jesucristo como mi único y suficiente Salvador y Señor de mi vida. Escribe mi nombre en el libro de la vida.

Behold, we are going to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will kill him. And they will hand him over to the Gentiles to mock, scourge and crucify, and on the third day he will rise again. Saint Matthew 20,18,19

Thought, comment, reflection: Matthew 20:18. We are going to Jerusalem on the journey to death that he had previously predicted (Matthew 16:21).

Delivered to the main priests. More detailed than chap. Matthew 17:22: 'in the hands of men'. A double treason is implied: first by his professed friends to his declared enemies; then by his own people to the Gentiles.

They will condemn you to death. A reference to the judicial condemnation of the Sanhedrin (Matthew 27: 1).

Matthew 20:19. And he will deliver it to the Gentiles. Comp. individual. Matthew 27.2 and following.

Mock, spank and crucify. Marcos and Lucas add: 'spit'. Accomplished in every detail.

And on the third day he will rise again. This was added as before. Salome's request indicates that the disciples did not understand the prediction as a whole (Luke 18.34), however clear it may be for us.

Give it to the Gentiles to mock: this was done by Herod and his Roman soldiers. See Luke 23.11.

Whip and crucify. This was done by Pilate, the Roman governor. The punishment of the cross was Roman, not Jewish; but the main priests

condemned, and the Romans carried out the sentence. How little did they know that through this process they jointly offered that sacrifice to atone for Gentiles and Jews! An atonement for the sins of the whole world? How many times can you literally say: The wrath of man will praise you!

Confession of faith

I confess my sin and ask for forgiveness, and free me from all condemnation. I recognize Jesus Christ as my only and sufficient Savior and Lord of my life. Write my name in the Book of Life.
