Y él dijo: Abba, Padre, todas las cosas son posibles para ti; quítame esta copa; Sin embargo, no es lo que quiero, sino lo que tú quieres. San Marcos 14,36

Pensamiento, comentario, reflexión: Ciertamente, Dios podría haber quitado la copa; pero hacerlo habría entronizado a Satanás como el Señor del hombre, y la destrucción de todos los hombres habría resultado en una sola vez. Al leer el carácter de Satanás en el Antiguo Testamento y el Nuevo Testamento, nos vemos obligados a ver la destrucción de la creación humana de Dios como un objetivo principal de Satanás, llegar al Edén; y si la muerte redentora de Cristo hubiera sido abortada, absolutamente nada habría impedido que Satanás lograra completamente su objetivo. Thought, comment, reflection: Certainly, God could have removed the cup; but doing so would have enthroned Satan as the Lord of man, and the destruction of all men would have resulted in one go. As we read the character of Satan in the Old Testament and the New Testament, we are compelled to see the destruction of God's human creation as a primary goal of Satan, to reach Eden; And if Christ's redemptive death had been aborted, absolutely nothing would have prevented Satan from fully achieving his goal. However, it is not what I want, but what you want ... At such an overwhelming cost to himself, the Lord consented to the Father's will, despite the agony within him. Here, in the garden, the human nature of our Lord was, for a time, on the rise; and the final defeat of the flesh was accomplished at the price of the agony detailed in the Gospels.
