Pensamiento, comentario, reflexión: usted no sabe, esta es una apelación adicional a la profesión cristiana y los principios involucrados en ella, en respuesta a la objeción. El argumento simple en este versículo y los dos siguientes es que, por nuestra propia profesión hecha en el bautismo, renunciamos al pecado y nos comprometemos a vivir para Dios.

Thought, comment, reflection: you don't know, this is an additional appeal to the Christian profession and the principles involved in it, in response to the objection. The simple argument in this verse and the next two is that, by our own profession made at baptism, we renounce sin and commit ourselves to living for God.

Many of us, all of whom have been baptized; that is, all professed Christians. Since this renunciation of sin had been made by all who professed religion, the objection could have no reference to Christianity.

They were baptized The act of baptism denotes dedication to the service of the one in whose name we are baptized. One of its purposes is to dedicate or consecrate ourselves to the service of Christ: Thus, in 1 Corinthians 10: 2, the Israelites are said to have been "baptized by Moses in the cloud and the sea"; that is to say, they were consecrated, dedicated or linked to him as leader and legislator. In the place before us, the apostle's argument is evidently taken from the assumption that we were solemnly baptized by baptism in the service of Christ; and that sinning is therefore a violation of the very nature of our Christian profession.

The word used in Matthew 28:19: "Teach all nations, baptizing them as the name of the Father", etc. That means being baptized in your service; welcoming him as Savior and guide, dedicating everything to him and his cause.

We were baptized until his death, we were baptized with special reference to his death. Our baptism was very much like his death. With that, he became insensitive to the things of the world; through baptism, in the same way, we become dead to sin. Furthermore, we are baptized with a particular reference to the design of his death, the great characteristic and the main purpose of his work. That is, to atone for sin; freeing people from their power; to make them pure. We profess our devotion to the same cause; and we solemnly consecrate ourselves to the same purpose, to put a period in the domain of iniquity.

I confess my sin and ask for forgiveness, and free me from all condemnation. I recognize Jesus Christ as my only and sufficient Savior and Lord of my life. Write my name in the Book of Life.
