He will save his people from their sins, this will be his great business in the world: the great mission for which he came, viz. make atonement and destroy sin: the liberation of all power, the guilt and contamination of sin is a privilege of every believer in Christ Jesus. Less of that is not mentioned in the Gospel; and less than that would be inappropriate for the Gospel. The perfection of the evangelical system is not that it allows sin, but that it repairs it: it is not that it tolerates sin, but that it destroys it. In Matthew 1: 1, he is called Jesus Christ, whom Dr. Lightfoot correctly observes: "That the name of Jesus, so often added to the name of Christ in the New Testament, is not just that Christ can be pointed out in this way. way as the Savior, but also so that Jesus can be designated as the true Christ or Messiah, against the unbelief of the Jews.
