Y llamando a la multitud para sí mismo, con sus discípulos, les dijo: Si alguien quiere venir a por mí, que se niegue a sí mismo, tome su cruz y me siga. San Marcos 8,34

Pensamiento, Comentario, Reflexión: La cruz no era solo para nuestro Señor, sino para todos los que entrarían en la vida eterna.

Negarse a sí mismo, el orgullo egocéntrico es la ruina de la vida humana; y 'El plan de salvación de Dios requiere que todos los que sean salvos renuncien a uno mismo. No es solo confesar a Cristo que es "para salvación", sino confesar a "Jesús como Señor" (Romanos 10: 9) lo que hace la diferencia. Ningún hombre que haya vivido puede salvarse como Joe Doakes, John Doe o Susie Smith. La salvación está "en Cristo". Uno se salva no en su propia identidad humana pecaminosa, sino "como Cristo", "en él" y mediante una identidad positiva y completa con él.

Tome su cruz. La cruz es la asunción del alma del papel de Jesucristo a lo largo de la vida, la recepción de su Espíritu Santo, la morada de la "mente que estaba en él" (

Filipenses 2: 5), el permiso de la palabra de Cristo para morar ricamente en el alma (Colosenses 3:16). Tomar la cruz no se refiere al uso de ningún adorno, ni a las pruebas de la vida, ni a las desgracias comunes de la humanidad, sino a la aceptación consciente de la voluntad total del Salvador.

Enseñar en este pasaje no es una receta para el martirio para todos los que serían salvos; pero, en este contexto original de las palabras, ciertamente tenía esa implicación.

Cranfield dijo: "El significado aquí es que el discípulo debe estar listo para enfrentar el martirio"; [16] ni debe descartarse por completo como potencialmente aplicable a cada cristiano.

Thought, Commentary, Reflection: The cross was not only for our Lord, but for all those who would enter eternal life.

Denying yourself, self-centered pride is the ruin of human life; and 'God's plan of salvation requires that all who are saved renounce themselves. It is not just confessing Christ who is "for salvation", but confessing "Jesus as Lord" (Romans 10: 9) that makes the difference. No man who has ever lived can be saved like Joe Doakes, John Doe or Susie Smith. Salvation is "in Christ". One is saved not in his own sinful human identity, but "as Christ", "in him" and through a positive and complete identity with him.

Take up your cross. The cross is the soul's assumption of the role of Jesus Christ throughout life, the reception of his Holy Spirit, the dwelling place of the "mind that was in him" (

Philippians 2: 5), the permission of the word of Christ to dwell richly in the soul (Colossians 3:16). Taking up the cross does not refer to the use of any adornment, nor to the tests of life, nor to the common misfortunes of humanity, but to the conscious acceptance of the total will of the Savior.

Teaching in this passage is not a recipe for martyrdom for all who would be saved; but, in this original context of the words, he certainly had that implication.

Cranfield said: "The meaning here is that the disciple must be ready to face martyrdom"; [16] nor should it be entirely ruled out as potentially applicable to every Christian.

Anyone who would save his life, the point of the final clauses here is that any disciple who would save his life by denying the Lord will lose eternal life, while any disciple who can lose his life through fidelity to Christ and the gospel will win eternal life.

Confession of faith

I confess my sin and ask for forgiveness, and free me from all condemnation. I recognize Jesus Christ as my only and sufficient Savior and Lord of my life. Write my name in the Book of Life.
